Watching The Wheeltappers And Shunters Social Club
Northern club variety, with Bernard Manning as the compere.
Granada recreated a working men's club in a studio: singers, comics, a gavel and a bar.
It was the last gasp of British club variety on television, and it put acts from the northern circuit in front of the whole country.
Much of the humour has not travelled at all well, which is itself part of the historical record.
