About the vault

Nostalgia Vault is a catalogue of the stuff that made up everyday life in Britain, sorted by the decade it belonged to. Sweets that got discontinued, telly that shut down at half eleven, gadgets that ate batteries, shops that are now a vape shop.

Why bother

Big history gets written down. The small stuff does not. Nobody archives the specific noise a Spectrum made while loading, or what a Findus Crispy Pancake did to the roof of your mouth, and those are the things people actually remember.

Where it comes from

Some of it is written here. A lot of it is sent in by readers, checked by a person, and credited. If something is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. There is a contact address at the bottom of every page.

How it pays for itself

Three ways, all of them declared. There are display adverts on some pages. There are affiliate links, which are labelled as affiliate links, and which earn us a small commission if you buy something. It never costs you more and it never decides what we write about. And some pages carry a sponsor, which is always marked as sponsored at the top of the page, not in the small print.
