Spam Fritters
Battered, fried, and served with a scoop of something beige.
Tinned meat in batter. A school dinner staple that divides every family gathering to this day.
Spam arrived under lend-lease and never fully left. In the fifties it was cheap protein you could do something with, and school kitchens did a great deal with it.
The fritter is the defensible version: slice, batter, fry, and most of the argument goes away. Anyone who tells you they hated them is remembering a bad one.
