Bus Conductors And Ticket Machines

A conductor upstairs and down with a leather satchel and a Setright machine that punched your ticket with a clunk.

The conductor ran the bus. He rang the bell twice to move off, knew every regular, and would wait if he saw you running.

One-person operation arrived through the seventies and the job went. You could argue the bus has never really recovered.
