Fray Bentos Pies
A pie in a tin, with a lid you had to cut off entirely.
Steak and kidney in a shallow tin, oven-baked with the pastry rising over the rim. Nobody has ever opened one safely.
The tin opener went round the top, the lid came off in one lethal disc, and the pastry puffed up out of the tin in the oven like something alive.
It came from Uruguay originally, which is a genuinely strange fact about a food most people associate with a caravan in Rhyl.
