The Teddy Boy shoe: exaggerated points, worn with drainpipes and a drape jacket, hated by every parent in the country.
The name comes from the pin used to get a winkle out of its shell. The points got competitively longer until they were genuinely impractical.
They were part of the first British youth fashion that adults could not simply ignore, which was largely the point.
