The Trolleybus
Silent, electric, and permanently attached to the ceiling.
Buses that ran on overhead wires: quiet, fast off the mark, and prone to coming off the poles at junctions.
Most large British towns ran trolleybuses at some point. They were eerily quiet compared to diesels, which caught out a lot of people stepping into the road.
When the booms came off the wires the conductor got out with a long bamboo pole to hook them back. Everyone on board watched through the window. It was the best part of the journey.
