Airfix Kits
A Spitfire, a tube of glue, and fingerprints on the canopy forever.
Polystyrene model kits sold in polythene bags on a card, cheap enough to buy with pocket money.
The bagged kits hanging on a shop spinner were the entry drug. Two shillings got you a Spitfire, and if it went well you graduated to a Lancaster you had nowhere to put.
Nobody's first kit was any good. The glue went everywhere, the transfers tore, and the canopy was permanently clouded. It did not matter in the slightest.
