The Twin-Tub Christmas Catalogue
Six hundred pages, and only forty of them mattered.
Grattan, Kays, Littlewoods: a doorstop catalogue delivered in autumn, with the toy section thumbed to destruction by November.
The catalogue was the internet. It came in the post, you paid weekly through an agent who was usually somebody's mum, and the back section was where children lived from October onwards.
Circling things in biro was allowed. Tearing the page out was not.
