Better hardware than the NES, and Europe actually bought it.
Sega's 8-bit console flopped in Japan and America but did unusually well in Britain, Europe and Brazil.
Alex Kidd was built into some machines, which felt like getting something for nothing. The card slot for Sega Cards was a dead end almost immediately.
It set up the Mega Drive's dominance in Britain a few years later. The playground had already picked its side.
