The vidiprinter on Grandstand, spelling out scores slowly enough that you could feel the result arriving.
Big scores were spelled out in brackets, "Manchester United 5 (five)", because the machine had form for typos and people did not believe it otherwise.
It is one of the great pieces of British sports broadcasting furniture, and its slowness was the entire drama.
