Sega Mega Drive
"SEGA!" shouted at the start of every game.
Sonic, Streets of Rage, and a marketing campaign aimed squarely at making Nintendo look like it was for children.
The console war was fought properly in Britain, in playgrounds, with genuine tribal loyalty. Sega ran adverts that directly mocked the SNES, which nobody had done before.
The six-button pad, the cartridge slot that needed blowing into, and the fact that Sonic 2 came with the machine. Peak console.
