MiniDisc
The best format that nobody bought.
Rewritable, skip-proof, and you could name every track. Sony's finest format and a commercial disappointment.
Filling one took an entire evening in real time, and you typed the track names in with a jog dial, one letter at a time, and it was oddly satisfying.
The iPod arrived three years later and the argument was over. MiniDisc has a devoted following to this day.
