Listen With Mother

Fifteen minutes of stories and nursery rhymes on the Home Service at quarter to two, aimed at under-fives and the mothers who needed a sit down.

It ran from 1950 to 1982 and the opening line entered the language. The format never changed: a song, a rhyme, a story, and a gentle goodbye.

The programme was scheduled to fall exactly when a toddler might reasonably nap. Nothing about it was accidental.
