HMV went into administration in 2013, closing dozens of stores, and became the last mainstream place to buy a physical album.
Browsing racks for an hour was how music was discovered for forty years, and the loss of that is a genuinely different way of finding things.
It survived, in smaller form, and the Oxford Street flagship reopened in 2023 to actual queues. Vinyl saved it.
